SPECIFIC INTERESTS: Metaphysics, travel and timeshares, food and wine, world music and

dance and fitness The Herbalife Way, good conversation – especially one-on-one.

FAVORITE PHILOSOPHICAL QUOTE TO ACT ON DAILY (almost):  “It is never too late to

become who you might have been.”

“hash line”.

Modern Dance (Ruth Moore, teacher) - exercise AND music appreciation fused in exhilarating

perfection.

corner of her desk-top one morning, she slowly backed up to sit in her floating camellia

Music –every moment under Fred Rupp’s inspired leadership – Never have I witnessed the “less

is more” philosophy of stern discipline more effectively and artfully used.

Music – The suspense, pride, and elation of playing in the band and orchestra, including

concerts, festivals, marching at football games – and just plain rehearsing.

Languages – Thanks to Helen Borders (English), Helen Yeaton (Spanish), Marion Redfield

(Spanish), and Ruth Hill (French) for igniting my passion for travel.

As part time endeavors, I worked for the Glendale and also the Crescenta-Canada YMCAs for

several years , primarily at Camp Fox on Catalina Island as their freight boat operator.  I also

ended up teaching scuba diving on and off for about ten years.

Twenty or so years ago, my younger brother and I became interested in antique gasoline

stationary engines and similar equipment and similar equipment and have restored quite a

few items and belong to a group that display and demonstrate at various functions such as the

Los Angeles County Fair, various city historical celebrations, etc.  If you have no idea what I am

Graduated from Occidental College in 1958

Entered the United States Air Force in October 1958 as a 2nd lieutenant

In 1960, Faith and I were married.  We set up our first home in Panama City, FL.

After completing my active duty, I spent 24 years at the high school level teaching physical

education, geography, US History, Art, and English second language.  My coaching assignments

included football, baseball, and boys and girls volleyball.

In 1962, we purchased our first home in Hacienda Heights, CA.  We are now in our second home

in the same community.

Faith and I have been married 44 ˝ years and have raised 6 children.  We have 10

Grandchildren.

In 1984, I fulfilled a childhood dream.  I began a twelve year, part-time career at Knott’s Berry

Farm as an engineer, operating their historic steam engines.  That was a great job.

Faith and I enjoy traveling by train.  We have taken many of the Amtrack trips across our country.

Our vacations usually include riding on tourist railroads featuring steam engines.  We also enjoy

National Parks, Civil War battle fields, museums, and visiting our two children and their families

that live in Florida and Kentucky.

My hobbies include: building a big HO gauge model railroad (18’ x 8’); photography,

rooting for the Angels; collecting old time radio shows, and doing projects on the computer.

Since retiring, I have continued to teach.  For the past ten years, I have been on special contract

This past year, Faith and I were privileged to have a “Good News Club” at our home.  This is a

for three years; and Cal State Northridge for five years.  Finally graduated 18 years after high

school.  Worked as a general contractor, real estate broker, and a civil engineer.  Obtained

registration as a Professional Engineer.  Began private practice in civil engineering in 1979

(Hale and Associates, Inc.).  Ran an engineering office in Santa Clarita with a staff of up to 35.

We attempted to retire and relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada in 2000.  Obtained a Nevada

Professional Engineering license but slowed down work (easing into retirement) until relocating

back to Southern California.  After returning to California, we really concentrated on retirement -

but as of this date, still working about 40 hours per week.  However, we are serious about full

retirement before October 2nd, 2004.

After graduating from Eagle Rock High School, I attended Glendale College and graduated from

Occidental College with a degree in Education.  I married Richard Kerns in 1958 and we are still

I taught elementary school first in Glendale for 2 years and then in Palos Verdes for a year.

In 1973, my husband’s employment took us to the Chicago area where we lived in the

northwest Suburbs for 20 years.  During that time we raised three children, 2 sons and a

daughter.  I also returned to school to get my Masters Degree in Special Education and taught

Special Education preschoolers for 15 years.

Thankfully, we were able to return to California when we retired in 1993 and presently live in

Encinitas.  We are enjoying the beach, our 4 grandchildren (all under the age of 6), travel and

golf.

I am so sorry to miss such a memorable reunion.

Highlights of the last 50 Years:

It took me 10 years from ERHS graduation to a BA (UCLA, 1964).  In between was Jr. College,

U.S. Navy (to the Artic and Antarctica on an icebreaker), being a nonfood merchandiser for

Safeway Stores , and hitch hiking through Europe and the Canary Islands for 6 months.  After

the BA, I attended grad school at UCLA and got a Ph.D. (clinical psychology, 1968).

Following the grind of grad school, working in Hawaii (Peace Corps Training Center and State

Health Department) seemed like a really good idea.  I also worked in Germany (U.S. Army drug &

alcohol treatment), and ended up on Long Island, New York, as a school psychologist in a

high school (with summers off).  I’ve been married (the second time) for 34 years and retired

for 4, but I’m continuing my private practice.  My three kids are grown, two are married, and I

have two grandchildren.

Highlights of the last 50 Years:

After graduation from ERHS I attended Pierce JC, Glendale JC and LACC.  Later, I attended UCLA where I studied Journalism.  I then worked as a Dance Instructor for Arthur Murray and Veloz and Yolanda Dance Studios.  I also studied dance under three well known dance professionals, including Niko Charisse, Cyd Charisse's former husband and Gene Nelson, the actor/dancer.  In addition I studied acting with Jay Justice at MGM Studios, and did a bit of modeling.  I was briefly represented by the Von Young Talent Agency in Hollywood.  Before embarking on my career with American Airlines, I worked for Commercial Service Systems, in theft investigation.  In 1958 I attended the American Airlines Stewardess College, and successfully completed the program and graduated.  This was a dream come true for me, for I always wanted to travel the world.  At the time, American Airlines proclaimed that they only hired four out of one hundred applicants for acceptance to the Stewardess Corps.  In 1961 I was promoted to the position of Supervisor of Stewardesses and Instructor.  After transferring to Washington, DC, I continued to act in the capacity of Stewardess Supervisor, and I became head of Stewardess Training.  In 1966 I married my husband Bruce, a US Air Force Fighter Pilot, and when he was transferred to The Pentagon, we moved to Virginia.  Prior to our leaving California, I managed to convince the US Air Force into giving me a ride in an F4 Phantom Fighter Jet.  I was told that I was only the third woman ever to ride in that aircraft.  I then wrote an article about that experience, which was published by a large L.A. newspaper syndicate.  In 1971 I resigned from American Airlines Management, and returned to line flying.  I continued to fly while commuting to Korea to visit with my husband who was stationed there for 13 months.  When he returned, we moved to Europe; to England, then Germany, then back to England.  I continued to commute in order to cover my flying assignments.  In 1978, upon our return from Europe, I attended The National Institute of Real Estate, and I subsequently earned my Virginia Real Estate License.  Also in 1978, I began breeding and exhibiting Lhasa Apso Show Dogs.  I am now an American Kennel Club Judge, and also a Dog Show Ring Steward for two Steward's Clubs. I am a member of four Dog Show Judge's Organizations and two Lhasa Apso Breed Clubs.  I've judged both the Non Sporting and Toy Groups.  In addition to occasionally using my Real Estate License, I also volunteer in the Emergency Room at The Alexandria Hospital.  I retired from American Airlines in May of 2003, after 45 years of service.  But, as you can see, I am far from being RETIRED.  During all of these years, I have traveled the world extensively.  I continue to retain my travel privileges as a retired Flight Attendant, and I'm free to travel the world on any airline, anytime, at my whim.

PS: Our only children are of the four footed variety.

Highlights of the last 50 Years:

I attended Glendale College for 1 year and then entered California Hospital School of Nursing.

I graduated in 1958 and Ron and I were married in 1959.  Ron received his electrical engineering

degree after we were married.  We have 1 girl and 2 boys.  We waited a long time and now have

4 little grandsons – 2 – 6 years old.  We also have a step-grandson who is 14.  I stayed home

with the children until I was 40 and then re-entered nursing.  Our daughter also graduated from

California Hospital Nursing School.  We retired in 1995 and have enjoyed traveling and cruising.

We are active in our church and are so busy we don’t know how we had time to work!

Most memorable Eagle Rock High School moments:

Lunch on the senior lawn – waiting for Ron and his friends to cruise by in Ron’s black ’50 Chevy

They were from Franklin!!
